Legal Advocacy Program
We provide information about elder abuse and the legal rights of older adults to friends, family members and professionals who are concerned about an older adult.
Legal Questions
Older adults with legal questions are invited to call the Seniors Help and Information Line at 604-437-1940 or 1-866-437-1940 (toll free).
Depending on what the question is:
- the question may be answered by a staff person on the Seniors Help and Information Line;
- we may send written material that answers the question;
- we may provide a referral for a legal consultation with BCCEAS; or
- we may refer you to outside services.
Legal Consultation/ Legal Check Up
Sometimes, instead of answering a callers question immediately upon speaking to the caller we will refer a person for a Legal Consultation (a full “Legal Checkup”).
This is an appointment with a lawyer or a paralegal, in person or over the phone. The appointment will last up to 50 minutes.
At the time that the appointment is booked we will provide further information about how to prepare for the appointment, such as sending us relevant documents in advance.
