Restraints

Physical restraints are any manual method or physical or mechanical device, material, or equipment attached to or adjacent to the resident’s body that the individual cannot remove easily which restricts freedom of movement or normal access to one’s body. Includes devices used to limit movement such as lap belts, vests, mittens, bed rails, and “gerry” chairs .  Chemical restraints are any drug used for discipline or convenience and not required to treat medical symptoms.  Used to inhibit or control behaviour primarily for the benefit of other residents or the facility staff.
